PROPER CARE

Fuel Selection

Consistently use only a high quality, nationally advertised brand of fuel with detergent additives designed to remove fuel injector deposits and prevent future accumulations. It is extremely important to keep the fuel injector tips clean to prevent hard starting, stalling, rough idling, hesitation, loss of power or poor gasoline mileage. Do not use off brands of fuel; they may contain impurities. The pennies saved are not worth the potential mechanical difficulty later. Fuel injected engines are more sensitive to dirt and deposits than are engines with carburetors. Therefore, exercise great care when selecting the fuel for your fuel injected engine.

Cleaning the Fuel Injectors

As preventative maintenance, consider using a fuel system cleaning additive (gas treatment) every 5,000 miles to help prevent deposit accumulation at the fuel injector tips. Simply pour the additive into a full tank of fuel and drive the vehicle under normal conditions. This is often an inexpensive way to keep the fuel injectors in optimum condition.

Fuel Injector Adjustments

Fuel injection systems generally do not require regular adjustment. However, if necessary, some changes can be made. These adjustments typically include engine idle speed, fuel/air mixture, throttle plate stop, and throttle cable. Since fuel injection systems are complex, any repair or adjustment should be performed by a professional automotive technician.
